What is the stargate made of, and how it works?

I've just been curious...I got my own ideas of what the stargate is made of and how it works, but what do other people think of the stargate.

My idea: Some kinda composite alloy plating, for the outer ring. the inner ring (the one that spins), is made of a naquada ring in a thin composite alloy casing with an inner core of most likely neutronium.

-when the stargate is activated, either by the DHD or SGC computers, the power source (DHD/SGC superconductors) activates the the inner ring and starts it spinning. The naquada, when powered, would generate a field that would focus the gravitational energy needed to create a singularity. That's where the neutronium core comes in...it's heavy enough to act like a ring singularity, especially when charged up by the naquada. Then normal wormhole theories take over. As for getting to the right planet, I'm guessing each stargate ring has it's own natural frequency built into it, like an ip address; when the starting stargate activates the wormhole, it forms it so it's frequency matches the stargate it's dialed to, so it would naturally jump to that gate.
-PS...I know neutronium weighs several billion tons per cubic cm, I'm guessing the naquada acts as a counterweight for it, displacing the neutronium's weight in space/time.

so...what do you all think...if you got any questions, just ask me, I'll be happy to explain

Well, the actual material of the Stargates would have to be some kind of alloy that could withstand the gravitational forces of a wormhole being created. In Star Trek: The Next Generation, they called this substance "corzanium" and said that it is only found past the event horizon of a black hole, and is very VERY hard to mine. If that were the case here, it would have taken a LONG time to build all those stargates.

As far as the dialing process, it would have to have some kind of subspace frequency transmitter that links to stellar coordinates somewhere (in our galaxy).

Your ideas seem very intelligent and ver probably are correct. emoticon

quote:

From the sci-fi web page:
Stargates are made of the element Naquadah (sometimes transliterated from the original language as "Naquada"), a quartzite metal not found on Earth. A teleportational wormhole is generated when charged neutrinos are applied to Naquadah, the only known element that absorbs and energizes with neutrinos. This forms a stable, artificial wormhole that connects to another Stargate. The derivative Naquadria is a powerful yet unstable fuel source; prolonged exposure to its radiation can cause mental disorders.

The monumental inner dial of each Stargate has 39 symbols, called glyphs, which correspond to different constellations. The outer dial has nine chevrons. When a combination of the inner dial's glyphs makes contact with seven of these chevrons, a wormhole is activated between 'Gates just as dialing a seven-digit telephone number makes contact with another telephone. (The last symbol is always the point of origin.) When a "puddle" of energy forms from the neutrino-Naquadah interaction, a person can step through to another planet.

I believe this corresponds exactly with what you are saying although you went into a bit more detail than they did, but I believe you are right on the money in this area. Of course I am not an expert on wormholes or anything but it sounds like a plausible explanation. It defiantly explains a lot to me as the way the stargate functions has always been a bit of a mystery to me, but that explanation of yours made a lot of sense to me. emoticon

speaking of the nine cheverons, we know that the seven are normal, 6 location, 1 point of orgin; from that episode "The Fifth Race", we know that 8 chevrons are used for long distance, 6 location, 1 distance, 1 point of orgin. But what is that ninth chevron used for? I'm thinking, possibly temporal cordinates, allowing for time travel between gates?

quote:

Again from the strgate site:The extra chevron must add a new distance calculation to the existing points, like a different area code." The purpose or function of the ninth chevron is still unknown

I believe this statement still applies, I haven't seen any recent contradictions, but boy id sure like to know about that ninth chevron too. emoticon
