Dr. Daniel Jackson

Dr. Daniel Jackson is an integral member of the SG-1 team. His archaelogical and linguistics expertise are a main part of what made the Stargate operational to begin with. He accompanied Col. O'Neil on the first Stargate mission to Abydos, where they defeated the Goa'uld System Lord Ra and aided in the freedom of the Abydonian people. Daniel Jackson chose to remain behind with his wife Sha're.

When the Stargate was reactivated, Jackson rejoined the Stargate team after Sha're was taken by the Lord Apophis and used as a host for the Goa'uld queen, Amonet. Jackson insisted on being allowed to participate in the SG-1 team, and was given a permanent place.

Jackson is a very intelligent, compassionate, and driven man. His addition to the SG-1 team has saved them countless times.

Here is the place to discuss the character of Daniel Jackson!

I think the most important thing about Daniel, is that he seems to allow everyone else to have more emotion. Since the military isn't big on sharing your feelings, the show really needs a character that's a civilian to sort of make it ok. When Daniel wasn't on Stargate for season 6, the show lost alot of its emotional base. It was only when he showed up a few times in the end, that the emotion came back (like in the episode when Teal'c lost his symbiote). That's just what I think.

You know Trinity, I noticed the emotion thing happening as well, but I could never really put my finger on why there was or wasn't emotion in the series -- but you just hit the nail on the head. You're right, Daniel does bring a lot of emotion to the series -- it's one of the things I really love about the show. I totally agree with you! I'm glad he's back emoticon

I am totally glad Daniel is back...!

I liked Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemec), but he didn't have that same chemistry with the rest of the team that Daniel Jackson has.

Jackson makes the team "human". He is non-military and he brings moral and ethical issues to the team's actions. He allows the team as a whole to interact on a more personal basis with the aliens they meet.

i don't know about making the team more "human" ... i suppose the fact that he's always willing to try to solve things without confrontation supports that .... but the emotion is still there with the other characters .... if u look at jack and sam, they've shown a lot of emotion .... in the episode "red sky" jack was the most passionate out of the lot, ok, guaranteed he was angry and held a gun to the guys head, but he's not without emotion ... and wen martouf died, that was pretty emotional for sam .... daniel brings a lot of passion about the history and other races, but the team isn't emotionless without him

It's not that there's no emotion, it's just that the plot tends to have less room for it when Daniel isn't there. In the sixth season the plot lines were more military and a little less humanistic, except for the one written by Christopher [sign in to see URL] then agian, Daniel was in it. It just seems that there's more opportunity for emotion when a civilian is [sign in to see URL] I see what you're saying.

I think that each character has something they are extremely passionate about. I identify with Daniel because he is so completely bent on helping others, even if orders dictate "no". For example, the episodes "One False Step" (one of my favorites) and "Demons".

Though, I thought Jack was very passionate in "Learning Curve" (another one of my favorite episodes), especially.

In my opinion, the thing about Daniel is his unending compassion for others. That may be the "emotion" that you are talking about. Of course, that doesn't mean that the other members of the team don't care, but they do tend to follow orders before they follow their hearts. Teal'c is very duty-oriented so he does what he is told, period.
And look at the static between Sam and Jack. There is obviously "something" there but they don't act on it because it is against military protocol. Daniel, on the other hand, isn't restricted by military codes. He follows his heart before he follows orders.
Without Daniel on the show, that "free-thinking" feeling was gone. Everybody on the team was a strict rule follower.
To top it off, look what the ancients did to him when he broke their rules and interfered in human events.
