General Hammond

As serious as he always is, he has a geniune concern for every member of SG-1. He is sometimes a spoilsport for us viewers at home that want to see the team go on an adventure. I don't mind though because it makes it that much more interesting when they end up going.
It is good to have a commander that isn't too mission oriented that he thinks of his team as disposable.

Re: General Hammond

I really like General Hammond. He maintains his authority, but he also has a personal, father-like relationship with SG-1. He always has their best interests, and the best interests of the USA, at heart. And he is not without adventure himself. He has been through his share of adventures as well.

I think he has the hardest job of all--regulating interstellar travel and species interaction, while still maintaining a working command structure, military protocol, and a grip on reality.

i don't think it's much of a fatherly relationship with SG-1 in general ... i think it's more to do with jack, he's always giving him the chances he needs ... i'm not saying that he doesn'tcare deeply about the team, 'cos he does, but i'm just saying that his relationship with jack holds up the template of a father-son relationship .... he's great tho, always doing everything within his power to keep the mountain running HIS way, not letting nething get out of his control

Re: General Hammond

I think General Hammond has a pretty tough job. In dealing with all of these other worlds and cultures, it becomes very difficult to maintain strict military protocol. Situations ( I can't think of any specifics at the moment) tend to force him to make a decision, that usually could have very serious consequences. Not to mention that he has a loyalty to SG-1, where he will go out of his way to make sure they don't get left behind, unless there really are no alternatives (which hasn't happened yet). In the end he really provides a balance for the SG-1 team.
